WRE$TLE LIKE A GIRL BECOMES A GRIFT $$$

So recently the "Wrestle like a Girl" organization had an admin on their facebook forum post the following:

As you can probably imagine, the feedback they got was not very good, and it lead to them locking down comments on the post:

They reached out to me in DMs as they were explaining that they would not be allowing posts anymore on their forum unless people agreed to pay a fee, and that they would only do so if the event was sanctioned by USA Wrestling and Wrestle Like A Girl.

What follows is my conversation with them in sequential order:

PART 1:
PART 2:

PART 3:
PART 4:

The reason it says "This person is unavailable on Messenger" is because they blocked me on Facebook shortly after this exchange.

They finally deleted their original post. I don't know if they are going to continue with this ridiculous policy or not. But it went exactly as I predicted.

Charging us $149 a year for the "privilege" to only post events that they sanction, and that USA Wrestling Sanctions and censoring us from offering dual teams, or event fliers for girls tournaments outside of their organization is absolutely ridiculous.

Doing so under the guise that they are doing it for the "safety of the athletes" is also ridiculous. As I pointed out in my exchange, there are plenty of organizations that require SafeSport certification and background checks.

Sad to see another wrestling organization that started off well intentioned turn into a grift. Limiting exposure to only USA Wrestling events for girls is not going to help girls wrestling. Some states don't even have a USA Wrestling presence.

UPDATE: The Wrestle Like a Girl Admin started another conversation about this you can find here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/wlagcommunity/permalink/4332956946938878/

More people are coming forward with their feedback and answers are not really forthcoming.

They are suggesting that they are not USA Wrestling, yet it's fairly obvious that if they only sanction events through USA Wrestling, and will only allow you to promote events through USA Wrestling, they effectively are USA Wrestling. Or an extension of USA Wrestling.

Here is another tidbit from the conversation, as I wager this will get deleted:

Someone then posted the financial support for the organization: https://www.causeiq.com/organizations/wrestle-like-a-girl,812428825/?fbclid=IwY2xjawKy8KNleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFJUkJ0aG1ObGkzNFZ3aVExAR43OQlI5BJcroI_mLtGLAQxF3jTSH1c9DjsUje8k7J-vDEmRVRgmHu2BnH0Hw_aem_dVRu4ehkeLRHoj_uB-AERw

The Black Widow needs help!

Morigan has been busting her butt at practice, training as many as 4-5 days a week. Wrestling at multiple clubs and upping her game with a grueling strength training regiment every day after practice. She makes a lot of sacrifices to reach for her dream. She wants a national championship. (And a cat. I told her she can have a cat if she wins a national title.)

The life lesson I am hoping to teach my daughter is that you can dream big, put in the work, and then achieve your dream. She has gotten very close this year. Placing 2cd at three different national tournaments. Since then she has buckled down hard in her focus, and added much more emphasis to strength training then she ever has before.

So now mostly due to the timing, we find ourselves dealing with a financial obstacle.

She has an important wrestling camp with NCAA Champion Mitch Clark, who has taught her what is basically 80% of her top game. She is a top specialist and scores well there. That goes on the 1st weekend of next month.

Immediately following that, she has another shot at her National Title, the Border Wars tournament being the following weekend. The timing so far as the training is good. She will be fresh off a three day camp with one of her best instructors. The timing so far as finances is not so good.

I am putting in extra hours at work, and some people have agreed to help, but even with their help I need about $200 of a cushion to ensure she can get to both events.

There is a donation widget on the top right of this blog. Please consider giving whatever you can. Anything helps. She has been busting her butt and deserves this shot before the regular season begins.

Thanks!

From Dad:

Today we confirmed that we will be going to the NuWay Summer National Championship wrestling tournament in New Jersey in late July. We were able to secure transportation and will be riding along with other wrestlers from Michigan. The part of the trip that will be difficult is paying for hotel accommodations. On the right there is a donation widget that will allow you to donate to help Morigan cover her expenses for the trip. If you prefer to mail a donation to us directly, contact me at leveer@gmail.com.

I want to thank everyone who has supported Morigan in her pursuits so far. And those who will do so in the future. We could not of done this without you.
